The City of New Westminster is hosting a FREE Public Information Session on Thursday, July 20th, from 7PM to 8PM at the Anvil Centre to discuss the potential development of an Urban Solar Garden.

Local residents and businesses are invited to attend and talk about:

VISION – Outline of the City vision to develop an Urban Solar Garden as an accessible, cheaper alternative to rooftop solar that allows access to solar energy “Made in New West, for New West”.

CONCEPT – Overview of the initial concept where community members served by the New Westminster Electric Utility can voluntarily subscribe to a portion of the electricity generated from the array.

  • Solar PV panels are installed at a City-owned location to produce renewable, local, and zero-carbon energy.
  • Local residents and businesses subscribe to buy their portion of solar energy generated by the PV array (for up to 25 years).
  • Each subscriber receives a credit on their monthly or bi-monthly electrical utility bill equivalent to their share of electricity produced by the Urban Solar Garden.

LOCATION – Identification of suitable sites for a 50 kW array (~ 200 panels) that would feed into the local electricity grid and become part of the capital assets owned by New Westminster’s Electric Utility.

Everyone with an interest in clean energy and solar power is encouraged to attend!  Your active participation is important so we can understand the community’s interest in this project and gather valuable feedback. See this information sheet to learn more about the Urban Solar Garden.
