The City of New Westminster’s Energy Save New West program is excited to announce that 95% of the 150 panel solar array have been reserved following the 30-day Urban Solar Garden pre-sale period!

Following this strong public support, we’re also pleased to announce that on Monday, December 4th, New Westminster’s City Council approved City staff to proceed with next steps including site selection and detailed design and construction requirements in effort to have the Urban Solar Garden operational by summer 2018.  For those interested, a link to the full Council agenda package including the City staff report and recommendation is available here.

In other Urban Solar Garden news, Metro Vancouver has also put together a nice video about New Westminster’s leadership in developing renewable energy as part of their “Close Up” video series which can be viewed through the link below.

For those who are still interested in participating in the Urban Solar Garden, the City is still accepting pre-sale agreements and deposits for the few remaining panels and for the purpose of establishing a wait list for potential Urban Solar Garden expansion.  Deposits via cash, debit or cheque can be made directly at City Hall.  Alternatively, for those with an online payment method set-up with New West Electric Utility, you can make your deposit through your online account.

Of note, we’ll be closing the purchase period for panels on Friday, December 8th.

Please stay tuned to Energy Save New West’s website and our program e-newsletter for periodic updates on the Urban Solar Garden into 2018. If you have any questions on the Urban Solar Garden, please do not hesitate to reach out and provide us your thoughts via email.
